Welcome to Year 5
There are two classes in Year 5. 2DR taught by Mr Ryan and 2AS taught by Miss Squire. Mrs Hussain and Miss Preece work with us.
Autumn Term
During the Autumn term we will be learning about:
As historians we will be learning about Roman Britain. During the unit, we will discover how the Roman Army functioned as a tactical and successful unit. Also, we will learn about beliefs people held during the period of Roman rule. Throughout the unit, we focus on interpreting a range of primary and secondary sources, evaluating their usefulness and using them as clues to give us a better idea of life in the past.
As artists this term the focus will be on developing our painting skills. During the unit, we will be improving our technique and control. Henri Rousseau will be our key artist for the unit, and, ultimately, we will be producing a painting in the style of Rousseau
As writers this term we are writing a narrative based on the story of Mai-Ling who is a dragon slayer. The focus is on developing speech and how this can support with characterisation.
As scientists this term we will be studying living things and their habitats. We will learn about life cycles of mammals, insects, amphibians and birds. Additionally, we will be learning about reproduction in some plants and animals.
As athletes this term we will continue to develop our dance skills, focusing on techniques such as canon and unison to choreograph a Roman marching formation.
